About Aquafins
Aquafins is a school-year competitive synchronized swimming club. Girls in grades 2-12 from all over the metro area meet two to three times a week to learn and perfect synchro skills and train for competitions. Many swimmers compete on their high school varsity team, so we give them a great way to stay in shape during the off-season.
WHAT IS SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING? (Taken from United States Synchronized Swimming Inc.) Synchronized Swimming is the execution of precise movements on, above and beneath the water performed to music. Imagine: - a gymnast performing underwater - a six-minute miler running without breathing - an ice skater perfecting movements in an unstable medium - a water polo player's strength to extend out of the water - a long distance swimmer's lung capacity developed for endurance Add to this a combination of grace, fluidity and synchronization with up to eight people, and you have synchronized swimming. Read the Wikipedia entry about synchronized swimming here. EVENTS There are four different events: solo (one swimmer), duet (2 swimmers), trio (3 swimmers) and team (from 4 to 8 swimmers). These four events comprise the routines, or music portion of synchro. Figures are also an important part of synchronized swimming. These are individual elements performed without musical accompaniment in front of a panel of judges who look at execution and design (how well the swimmer shows each position). AQUAFINS TEAM GOALS *To provide swimmers with the opportunity to develop leadership skills, dedication, sportsmanship and self-discipline. *To provide opportunities for parents to see the progress their swimmers have made. This is accomplished by having the swimmers perform in a show. *To provide swimmers with an opportunity to compete. *To provide a positive learning environment where swimmers can progress and improve.
